DaughtersOf Discussion With The Divine 9 Sororities
Wow. Wow. WOW! GirlTrek family, we did it again. We hosted a wonderful discussion last night with the #daughtersof the Divine 9 and we are still basking in the beauty from this powerful display of sisterhood!
For one night only, we asked not one, but ALL 4 PRESIDENTS of the Divine 9 Sororities — the AKAs, Deltas, Zetas and SGRhos — to come together to talk about their remarkable history, commitment to service and the power behind their individual and collective legacies. We also dug deep into the state of black women’s health, because their advice and love are critical as GirlTrek builds the largest health movement in history. Now is the time for Black unity and collective service -- and the leaders of each sorority made sure to stress this point.
THANK YOU to Dr. Glenda Glover — National President of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Beverly Smith — National President of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Valerie Hollingsworth-Baker — International President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., and Ms. Deborah Catchings-Smith — International President of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc, for uniting and showcasing the friendship, support, and love that exists among them all. It was beautiful to see, inspirational to hear, and powerful to be a part of this incredible moment.
And thank you to everyone who tuned in! For all your support and wonderful comments. We made a promise that if we were able to secure 10,000 live viewers, we would donate $10K from the GirlTrek Gives Back Fund — and we surpassed our goal! Nearly 13,000 people tuned in live and over 200,000 of you have watched it so far — we are in awe and ingratitude. And we hope this week's conversation, along with our previous #daughtersof discussions with Angela Davis & Nikki Giovanni, and Dr. Bernice A. King and Ilyasah Shabazz, inspire you to take action in your own lives to feel more fulfilled, alive, healthy and strong.
Stay tuned for a HUGE walking challenge starting June 1, formal announcement in your inbox soon! For now, if local laws permit, we want to encourage you to get out and WALK this Memorial Day Weekend to reclaim your joy and your healing! Remember, walking is the first practical step all of us can take to live healthier lives. Please be safe, wear a mask, and practice social distancing.
We’ll be sharing more updates as we move forward with our campaign but we want to remind you to share your #daughtersof story on social media if you haven’t already! We are still collecting stories and encourage each of you to participate in this collective exercise in calling your mothers’ names and carrying on this sacred tradition.
