In 1905, Pan-Africanist and civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois drafted a "Call" to a few select people. The Call had two purposes: "organized determination and aggressive action on the part of men who believed in Negro freedom and growth."
Du Bois gathered a group of men representing every region of the country except the West. They hoped to meet in Buffalo, New York. When refused accommodation, the members migrated across the border to Canada. Twenty-nine men met at the Erie Beach Hotel in Ontario.
The Niagarites adopted a constitution and by-laws, established committees and wrote the "Declaration of Principles" outlining the future for African Americans. After three days, they returned across the border with a renewed sense of resolve in the struggle for freedom and equality.
Thirteen months later, August 15–19, 1906, the Niagara Movement held its first public meeting in the United States on the campus of Storer College in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. They held the meeting on "John Brown Day" in honor of the great abolitionist who lost his life in the fight for freedom.
From this meeting birthed the NAACP.
We believe that one day the history books will tell the story of GirlTREK.
How thousands of Black women from every part of the world joined together on Harriet Tubman Day, March 10, 2024, to re-found the GirlTREK movement with a new pledge for its membership and a new mission.

We are the mighty among the few.
The Harriets of our communities.
Like her, we are listening to the call of the Universe. We hear it telling us to lean in, to let go, to have faith that what’s ahead is better than what we are leaving behind. If you are paying attention, then you know too. You can feel it in your bones. You can sense it coming in with the wind. Change. Opportunity. A portal to a new world and new way of living. It is here for us now. We only need to walk through.
Let us know you'll be joining us here.
We will be broadcasting live from Harriet House Parties at GirlTREK's national headquarters in DC and our new Southern headquarters at Bricklayers Hall, but if you live in the area, we are opening up RSVPs to join us in person. Space is limited.
If you're in the Montgomery area, RSVP here.
