A Million Black Women Salute Harriet At Sunrise
Solidarity Walk, National Prayer, 30-Days of Organizing for Health and Justice
This Friday.
November 1st.
History will be made.
Black women everywhere will salute Harriet Tubman at sunrise.
To participate, set your alarm and go on a walk from your front door. As the sun rises, kneel, wherever you are, in earnest prayer — because we are facing a crisis.
A Prayer for Black Women’s Health
Dear God,
Guide our steps. Guide us for the next 30 days as we do the impossible – mobilize a million Black women to say yes. Say yes to living, not dying. Yes to slowing down, not working ourselves to death for other people’s praise. Yes, to honoring our bodies. ...to restoration and fresh anointing, not exhaustion, anxiety or fear. I speak against depression God. Fortify us. We know that the same DNA, the same blood that pumped through Harriet’s veins pumps through ours today. We know our true value, our true worth, our true beauty. Yes, to doing the real work - the everyday work — of saving our own lives. It will take your full armor God. Give us courage, grit, faith and determination. Because we know that no one is coming to save us God. Not politicians, not celebrities, not corporations, not even our families. Even Harriet had to go alone. We have to step out on faith. We want to love abundantly. We want to give what you would have us give. We want to continue to fight for justice. But we are being crushed. Murdered in our own homes. So this month, as the world pauses to remember our hero Harriet Tubman, we continue her fight in the streets to save our own lives. We started as two. You made two into 100. God, we ask you to turn this movement into a million – this month, not next year. Not just a million who take our pledge, but a million who honor it by putting themselves at the top of their to do lists. We ask that when we are stuck on how to honor our bodies as temples that you will remind us to put feet to our prayers and walk God. Not as mere exercise, but as protest to stress, as tribute to every woman who walked before us, as a mighty strategy to organize, as a lifeline to our sisters, as a visible army to inspire our daughters, as the heroes — the Harriets — of our communities. We call this movement GirlTrek. “Trek” reclaiming the word from “The Great Trek” that first colonized our people. We’ve always known it would be a long and arduous journey — one that requires us to remember how far you’ve brought us. And “Girl” because this is not even for us. God, we ask for generational healing, for our daughters and their daughters. Today, we pray for total healing and for the strength to fight oppression.
In your name, Amen

TELL THE WORLD: Post this cool gif or one of the memes below with the following message (or one of your own):
Never ask permission to save your own life! Join Black women everywhere as we hit the streets to celebrate Harriet Tubman's legacy on November 1st. From our front doors, we will walk 30 days straight, as collective action, a powerful intervention and accountability to put ourselves back at the top our to do lists. There is a silent health crisis facing Black women. Just behind the very public violence waged against our communities, Black women are dying silently from chronic stress, debilitating depression, crippling loneliness and exploitative labor. Harriet inspires us to take action. We will mobilize a million Black women to walk, talk and be a lifeline to one another by 2020. You are invited. Be counted at GirlTrek.org. #weareharriet
I can't wait to get my "H" hoodie so I can stunt on everybody.
Because after last week — y'all know what happened — we honestly didn't know if we could pull this all together. ...but God! You rallied. You said yes! HUNDREDS of emails. "I stand with you!" "Let's get busy!" "Harriet would have it no other way!" Your responses were tremendous!
One sister wrote: "I AM HARRIET and I pledge to walk my way to freedom. Freedom from obesity. Freedom from depression. Freedom from isolation. Thank you!"
That's not all...
We even heard back from Black women in Hollywood - celebrities, producers and industry insiders who said, "This is not ok! Give us names! If the company comes for one of us they come for all of us! How can we help!?” Those influencers plan to wear blue to the film's opening to support GirlTrek’s life-saving mission.
You see, they can't stop this.
Because we've already been paid for.
Because when Black women unite were unstoppable.
So here we are. Ready for a full-month of walking and organizing,
Vanessa and I will devote each Friday to celebrating your victories and keeping you inspired. Stay tuned for details for our first live broadcast of the #weareharriet challenge this Friday!
Please don't let this movement stop with you. Share it far and wide.
We love you Harriet!
Sincerely,
Morgan and Vanessa
