Black Family 5Ks are Back!
This Thanksgiving say nah to the nonsense and yes to a new family tradition!
Dear Fam,
(In our Malcolm X voice) We’ve been had, hoodwinked, bamboozled and led astray! These folks got us out here spending money we don’t have on things we don’t need all in the name of Black Friday. It’s a straight up set up and GirlTrek knows it. That’s why three years ago we decided to join the#optoutside movement by inviting women to participate in a new holiday tradition – Black Family 5Ks! That’s right, we appropriated, rebranded and flipped a corporate holiday into a pre-Kwanza lovefest.
We made Black Friday the new Black Holiday by inviting families to shake off the sweet potato ‘itis, put away the credit cards, gather up all the cousins who done snuck out to “go to the store” and hit the streets of our neighborhoods for some good ole’ fashion family fun.
Black Family 5K’s have become a hallmark end of year celebration in the GirlTrek movement. Hundreds of women have hosted post-Thanksgiving walks with their loved ones, and this year we are inviting you to do the same. It’s super simple and tons of fun. Everything that you need to plan yours in the next two weeks (#cpttime) is below.
2019 Black Family 5k National Walk & Thanksgiving Tradition!
WHO: GirlTrek invites you to host a "Black Family 5K" with your family this Thanksgiving. Aunties, uncles, grandparents and neighbors will gather after dinner on Thursday or during the holiday weekend to walk together. This is a new tradition.
WHAT: Joining is super fun and easy. GirlTrek provides everything you need, including customizable race bibs and a special edition Black Family 5K shirt.
WHEN: Most walks will happen on Thursday after dinner or Friday morning.
WHERE: Wouldn't it be awesome to have Family 5Ks in every state in America? Help us make it happen. Host one yourself and tell family members across the country to do the same!

Step 3: INVITE YOUR FAMILY & GET YOUR GEAR!
Send an email, post on Facebook or start a good ole’ fashion group text letting your family know it’s going down. Tell them no dressing unless they bring their sneakers for the walk!
