SPECIAL EDITION JUNETEENTH POSTER

What does freedom sound like? The footsteps of one million Black women.

Happy Juneteenth, y’all!

We see you out there organizing for the weekend, and according to what we’ve been observing online, we don’t think there is going to be a parade, protest, festival, block party, or backyard BBQ where #GirlTrek won’t be represented!

Some of you have registered for events, some of you have scheduled walks, and many of you have coordinated your Crews and are planning to show up and show out in your communities in your superhero blue.

Whew! Our foremothers would be proud - because as Audre Lorde said, “revolution is not a one-time event” - and we know that even as we commemorate this Juneteenth holiday there are so many Black women who have yet to experience freedom.

And this is why we walk. And why so many of you plan to represent the movement this weekend.

Thank you, family! Thank you for how hard you go for GirlTrek. We couldn’t be more grateful that you answer the call each and every time. And as a thank you, GirlTrek’s Artist-in-Residence, Deondra Wilkins, created this special edition Juneteenth poster

You can carry it to an event, post it around town or hang it as art.

We hope when you look at it that it reminds you that together we are saving lives and continuing the legacy of the Abolitionists and Freedom Fighters who we honor and commemorate on this holiday.

Onward!
