Monday Motivation: The Evidence
Sister,
Sometimes a GirlTrek photo comes across our timeline that stops us in our tracks because of how accurately it communicates the power of this movement.
This is one such photo.
Shared yesterday, on Independence Day, by a Trekker in Philadelphia, just hours before gunshots would ring through the streets during the city's annual holiday celebration.
We wonder what advice this elder has for this young girl? For all of our young girls?
What words of wisdom she must have been pouring into her on her walk that would help her get through a time such as this.
We weren’t there to overhear, and yet, something about the tenderness of the way her arm is wrapped around her body, something about the steadiness of her stride says that she was telling her it’s going to be alright.
And it will be.
That’s what walking has done for so many of us. Anchored us in an unshakeable faith.
Faith that is evident in the joy that’s been radiating through your posts and pictures as you start the Remix with us. Faith that is evident in Saturday's National Rally & Roll call, where we had a vulnerable and honest conversation about friendship and disagreeing [If you missed it, you can catch the healing here].
We walk in the footsteps of women who have been here before and we share this message with you now as a reminder for anyone who hasn’t started on their journey yet.
This July we are going after all that we deserve, and you deserve it too, sis.
Your mother and her mother before her and her mother before her didn’t give up so that you could be here. Let your every step this week be a celebration of that fact. And commit that this month you will complete 21 Treks, either through the Jumpstart or the Remix.
As you walk, let the words of your elders guide you. If you can’t hear or imagine what they would say to you, we share this Proverb by Jaiya John. In perfect alignment, Morgan shared it yesterday with the team as part of a reflection on how transformative our work was in June and now we offer it here to you.
Precious Child asked Grandmother:
What does it mean to reweave your life?
Grandmother answered:
Unlearn your old harmful ways.
Learn your new healing ways.
Garden the stories you tell yourself.
Allow beauty to run like a river through your soul again.
Permit peace to graze your heart.
Drink the rain.
Savor the sun.
Love like love loves.”
May you reweave your life one step at a time.
With love,
V&M
